Prayer

Prayer LogoThe church prayer meeting takes place every Monday night at 7pm, upstairs in the main church building. God’s word instructs us to “pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and we would encourage you to join with us.

What is prayer?

It is our communication with God, where we talk with him and take time to listen to his voice. It is us expressing our dependence on God.  In prayer, we allow God into our lives and align ourselves to His will for us.

Why a prayer meeting?

Private prayer and daily devotional is like air and water to the Christian, however, Jesus also taught that “where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them” (Matthew 18:20). In this busy hectic world of ours, our prayer meeting shows our commitment as a body of believers and as a church to the power of prayer. God works through the prayers of His people.

Do I have to pray aloud?

No, God hears all prayer, spoken and silent. There are great blessings to be found in quiet times as we wait upon God and seek to hear his voice.

How do I pray?

Jesus taught us how to pray in the Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we have also forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.”
(Matthew 6:9-13)

The prayer he modelled for us was simple. It was not, as quoted by the well known Selwyn Hughes, “a verbal marathon involving the use of secret codes, but is simple and straight to the point communication with our loving heavenly Father”. Therefore, we must remember that how we pray is unique, we are unique and no one can pray our prayers better than we ourselves!
